Site Surveyor – Lead Heavy Civil & Site Development Projects for Keystone Construction & Earthwork


Job Overview:

  • Salary/Pay Rate: $75,000 - $110,000 per year plus Performance-Based Bonus
  • Location: State College, PA (10% northeast regional travel)

The Opportunity:

You will serve as a key field specialist responsible for establishing exact construction layouts across active heavy civil and site development projects. This role gives you complete ownership over survey accuracy, elevation control, and field layout using modern GPS and total station technology. You will play a vital role in keeping earthwork crews on schedule while delivering top-tier precision for major regional developments.


How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Perform precise construction layout and staking for grading, excavation, utilities, structures, and paving.
  • Establish, verify, and maintain essential project elevations, grades, benchmarks, offsets, and site control points.
  • Read and interpret complex civil engineering plans, grading profiles, and utility details accurately in the field.
  • Verify existing site conditions and completed work to ensure strict compliance with elevation and slope specs.
  • Perform detailed as-built measurements and maintain organized field data records for project tracking.
  • Collaborate directly with project managers, foremen, and heavy equipment operators to keep field work moving efficiently.


Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction surveying or heavy civil layout.
  • Strong practical knowledge of site grading, utility installations, slopes, and construction offsets.
  • Demonstrated experience operating GPS data collectors, robotic total stations, and survey tools.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret detailed civil construction drawings and site plans.
  • Physical ability and willingness to work outdoors on active civil construction sites.


Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Associate Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Advanced field experience managing layout for complex site development and infrastructure projects.
  • Hands-on experience performing construction field layout using Topcon equipment and software, including Topcon Pocket3D, Topcon MAGNET Field, and Excel.
